I've had better days

Yesterday, as I stood and peeled vegetables at work I started to feel really really bad. Everything was spinning around me, but I thought that it will probablybe better if I drink some water.
That's the last thing I remember, and suddenly I was on the floor across the room with and extreme headache and worried colleagues around me.
Apparently I had started walking towards my water bottle and just collapsed, I hit the left side of my head  on the floor, it does not show so well in the picture but that is some black eye!

Mattias picked me up and we went to the emergency room, but they could not find any problems and I have never ever fainted before in my whole life so I really wonder why this happened. Really creepy. :/ I'm so paranoid that it will happen again sometime when I'm alone.
Have you fainted and what was the reason?

The swelling around my eye doesn't hurt so much today ay least, the worst thing was that I hit my jaw so it is tough to chew!

Good excuse to eat a lot of ice-cream I guess. :P

  1. :/ Are you ok now? I hope that black eye doesn't hurt much.
You shouldn't worry, these things happened. I had never fainted in my whole life until I got 18; since then, sometimes I faint when I haven't slept or eaten enough, or when I'm very stressed. It's not a big deal, but it's scary if it happens when you're alone, 'cause you might fall and bang your head on the floor. But you should know when it's about to happen: usually people experience nausea, shivers, they lose their balance, then they start seeing all black and everything spins, you feel your ears ring... you should tell when you're about to faint, lay down immediately and have someone lift your legs. Then drink something sugary and have a little rest :) and it'll pass.

    1. The black eye doesn't hurt at all, it's more my neck and a headache that is irritating me. :<

Yes, I really hope I will know what will happen if I'm about to faint again so I have time to sit or lay down.

    1. Ja förhoppningsvis var detta bara en engångsföreteelse!

  3. You poor thing!! So scary! I'm glad you're ok! I used to faint because my blood-sugar was low. Avoiding sugary foods except rare occasions has definitely helped.

    1. The doctors said that my blood-sugar was normal though, my first thought was that is could be that so it's weird O.o

  6. Dehydration can be a cause. Sometimes people do not realise how dehydrated they are. Also if you have a cold/ flu. I think also low blood sugar. Also perhaps just get some blood tests just in case you have any mild illnesses, if they did not give you some already.

    1. They took a lot of tests at the doctor but all were good so I'm really confused. I'm thinking of doing some tests though to see if I should eat more of some vitamins or so :O

  7. Oh dear - how frightening! Good thing you were surrounded by people!!

I only fainted once - it was my first day at the Post Office sorting mail and I had been standing for four hours which I'd never done at a job before. My doctor said it was from low blood pressure. But I'm happy to report I can now do a 9-1/2 hour day on my feet in retail, so obviously a person grows out of it. LOL!

    1. Yes I have been thinking the same thing! And I'm relivied I didn't fall on any sharp edges, a kitchen is not a good place to faint.

Haha :D I really hope this was a once in a lifetime experience.

  8. I've fainted so much throughout my life that all the minutes spent unconscious would amount to a year maybe more worth of time, heh =S. I am very susceptible to it, though the leading cause of my fainting spells is my hemophobia (fear of blood). Most times fainting is caused by sudden drops or peaks in blood pressure, it could be from vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, over heating, stress, or from over exertion, which as Lady Insomniac mentioned can be from standing for too long.

I haven't gotten over my fainting spells, so my hope for you is that it isn't the start of something, because yes, it can be very limiting and even dangerous given the environment you're in.

    1. Oh my :O my sister has the same phobia so she faints a lot as well.

I hope so too, I hold my thumbs that this wont be a habit :S

  10. I'm a little late to the conversation, but I hope that you are feeling better! Sheeze, that IS super scary. I've felt dizzy and ill when I stood still too long, especially when I was battling blood sugar problems in high school.

    1. I feel so much better know, I was so scared first day of work since the faint-incident, but I feel all fine now. :D

Maybe it just was my bloodsugar, it's possible that it was low when I fainted and got higher so it was normal when they took the tests at the hospital, I don't know. :'D
